A dedicated team of doctors at Indore's Index Medical College and Hospital Research Center performed a complex surgery, successfully removing a 23 cm, 1.5 kg tumor from a woman's body. The 41-year-old patient, a native of Indore, had been experiencing abdominal pain for the past year. Despite multiple consultations, her condition worsened, leading to reduced food intake and weakness.

Dr. Anita Inani Maheshwari of Index Medical College and Hospital Research Center carried out sonography, MRI, and a series of blood tests. The results indicated a 21 by 19 by 12 cm tumor attached to the kidney and a major blood vessel supplying blood directly to the heart. After a three-hour operation, the 23 cm tumor was successfully removed without significant blood loss. Both the kidney and the major blood vessel were preserved, and the patient is now fully healthy.

Less Than 1% Tumor in This Body Part

Dr. Anita Inani Maheshwari mentioned, “In my 24 years of surgical experience, such complicated tumors are rare. Generally, tumors in this body part are less than 15 cm and weigh between 700 to 800 grams. Tumors of such magnitude occur in less than 1% of patients. Our team at Index Hospital successfully performed this rare surgery, removing a benign tumor measuring 23 cm and weighing 1.5 kg, free of cost.”

Doctors stated that this tumor posed a significant danger to the patient’s life. Often, it could evolve into a malignant tumor. Since it was adhered to critical organs like the large intestine, kidney, ureter, and blood vessels supplying the heart, the risk of blood vessel rupture was high. Performing surgery in such conditions is extremely complex.

The intricate operation team consisted of Dr. Anita Inani, Dr. Priyanka Rathore, Dr. Gaurav Saxena, Urologist Dr. Nilesh Guru, PG Dr. Urvija, Dr. Ashwini, Dr. Shilpi, along with the anesthesia team. The chairman of the Index Group, Suresh Singh Bhadouria, and Vice Chairman Mayankraj Singh Bhadouria applauded the doctors for successfully completing the challenging operation.
