The capital city of India, Delhi, has been experiencing extreme heat for the past few days, with temperatures soaring past 40°C. Fortunately, conditions are changing from April 29, as cooler winds and overcast skies offer much-needed relief. The promising news is that May is set to begin with kinder weather.
What's the Weather Like Today?
According to the latest update from the meteorological department, Delhi will have partly cloudy skies and a chance of thundershowers today. The minimum temperature could be around 25°C, while the maximum may reach 39°C. Similar weather is anticipated for April 30.
Kicking Off May with Rain
As May commences, expect rain showers with thunderstorms on the 1st and 2nd, as predicted by the weather office. These conditions will result in a temperature dip, with highs potentially falling to 37°C. Light rain, thunder, dust storms, strong winds, and sporadic lightning are expected during this period.

Boost in Pre-Monsoon Activities
Skymet suggests that several factors will contribute to an increase in pre-monsoon activities in Delhi-NCR, including the proximity of the east-west trough, turning winds, cloud cover, and increased moisture levels. From May 1 to 6, active weather patterns will prevail, bringing light rain, thunder, dust haze, and gusty winds. The period from May 4 to 6 holds the potential for strong pre-monsoon storms.
Weather Outlook Across India
In Northeast India, expect light to moderate rain, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Kerala, and southern Tamil Nadu may see light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Andaman and Nicobar Islands will also likely receive light to moderate showers. In parts of Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Lakshadweep, light rain is anticipated.
