Massive piles of garbage stand tall in Delhi, becoming a source of distress for nearby residents. From the podium of the India Today Conclave, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta declared that 80% of landfill sites will be cleaned within the next two years. She revealed that significant parts of the Bhalswa landfill have already been cleared, with 54,000 bamboo plants introduced to kickstart a green belt.
Mountains of Waste to be Cleared Within Two Years
Rekha Gupta shared her experience of touring Delhi's three landfill sites and emphasized ongoing cleanup efforts. While a deadline for eliminating waste mountains can't be set, she assured that significant reduction will happen in the next two years. Our government prioritizes action over just promises, with progress reports published every three months.
Discussing pollution, she stressed their commitment to reducing both air and water pollution. Initiatives include cleaning the Yamuna and its affected drains, and addressing e-vehicle promotion and mitigating stubble burning.
Gupta expressed hopes that widespread AQI improvements will prevent people from having to leave Delhi during winter. Though no strict deadlines can be announced, evident progress is being made towards pollution reduction.
Fulfilling Public Expectations
Regarding the capital's development, Gupta highlighted the influx of thousands pursuing new dreams, all seeking a conducive environment. Our government is dedicated to fulfilling these aspirations. Addressing deficiencies in roads, water, and air is a top priority.
Rekha Gupta's Vision for Summer and Rainy Seasons
Assuring residents, Gupta said that Delhi would not face water scarcity this summer, nor would flooding be an issue during the rainy season. Proactive measures are underway, with the Delhi government implementing a summer action plan to ensure relief for residents regularly plagued by these challenges.
