The Delhi High Court has delivered a significant blow to incarcerated leaders by rejecting a plea to allow them campaign rights during the Lok Sabha elections. The court admonished the petitioner, stating that the request goes against fundamental principles by asking the judiciary to enact laws.

The court stated, "You desire that all arrested individuals be permitted to campaign via video conferencing. Should this occur, dangerous criminals could establish political parties and contest elections, then campaign through video links."

The High Court mentioned that there has been an influx of petitions lately, each either seeking release from jail or imprisonment for someone else. Attempts are being made to involve the judiciary in politics. "We wish to maintain our distance from political affairs and you're attempting to draw us into political snares. There’s a bit of campaigning involved in all this, and efforts to involve the court as well," said the judiciary.
