The Delhi High Court heard the bail plea of AAP leader Manish Sisodia in both CBI and ED cases related to the Delhi Liquor Scam, yet relief eluded him again. Sisodia had challenged the lower court's rejection of his bail. The Delhi High Court has scheduled a further hearing on May 8, issuing notices to both the CBI and ED.

Manish Sisodia's lawyer argued that he had been granted custody parole once a week to visit his ailing wife by the trial court. However, following the dismissal of his bail plea, he was unable to meet her. He petitioned for the custody parole to continue until his bail plea is pending in the Delhi High Court.

Sisodia Might Be Granted Permission to See Wife

Sisodia's application requested that the trial court's orders remain effective during his bail plea's pendency, allowing him weekly visits to his ill wife. The Delhi High Court asked ED why they would object to continuing this arrangement, given that it had been in place for the past three months.

The ED opined that if the trial court's orders were upheld, it would not object.

Why was Sisodia Arrested?

Manish Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023, over alleged corruption in the creation and implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

The Controversy Explained

On March 22, 2021, Manish Sisodia announced the new liquor policy which was implemented as Excise Policy 2021-22 on November 17, 2021. Following the new policy, the government exited the liquor business completely, and all the shops came under private management. The government claimed that this policy would end the mafia rule and increase revenue. But, controversies surrounded the policy since its inception. As disputes escalated, on July 28, 2022, the government revoked the new policy and reinstated the old one.
