Following the rise of the Yamuna River to critical levels, water infiltrated into several neighborhoods in the Trans-Yamuna area of Delhi on Tuesday. The heavy rainfall, compounded by the substantial water released from Haryana's Hathni Kund Barrage, has led to a rapid surge in water levels, raising concerns of possible flooding in low-lying areas. Areas like Yamuna Bazar, Mayur Vihar, and nearby zones have reported water entering homes, prompting the authorities to urge residents to seek safety at elevated locations.

At 8 AM on Tuesday, information reveals that Yamuna's water level was recorded at 205.80 meters at the Old Railway Bridge, exceeding the danger mark of 205.33 meters.

Water Levels Could Surpass 206 Meters

Officials report the release of 1.76 lakh cusecs of water from Hathni Kund Barrage, 69,210 cusecs from Wazirabad Barrage, and 73,619 cusecs from Okhla Barrage. As a result, the river levels are expected to soar, possibly exceeding 206.50 meters between 5 PM and 8 PM on Tuesday.

Evacuation Orders for Low-Lying Areas

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has advised residents of colonies along the Yamuna's banks to promptly relocate to safer grounds. Utilizing boats, the administration encourages people to carry essential belongings and proceed to relief camps. Reports of homes inundated with water continue to emerge from Yamuna Bazar, Mayur Vihar, Shahdara, Vivek Vihar, and other areas across the Trans-Yamuna region.

Rain Alert in Delhi-NCR

The non-stop overnight showers have resulted in water logging on several roads across Delhi. Meanwhile, the weather department forecasts light to moderate rainfall across areas such as Narela, Alipur, Burari, Karawal Nagar, Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Shahdara, Vivek Vihar, Preet Vihar, Civil Lines, Kashmiri Gate, Red Fort, ITO, and Akshardham.
