Who is Shah Rukh Pathan?
In 2020, a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in North East Delhi escalated into violence. In the heart of this chaos, Shah Rukh Pathan was seen brandishing an automatic pistol, first firing into the crowd and then aiming it at a Delhi police head constable. Following this, he managed to elude the authorities amidst the turmoil.
The Crime Branch eventually tracked down and arrested Shah Rukh in Uttar Pradesh. His act of firing was captured in a video that went viral across social media.
On October 22, the Delhi High Court dismissed Shah Rukh Pathan's bail plea. The case is linked to FIR 51/2020 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 147 (rioting), 148 (armed rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), and 307 (attempt to murder). These charges highlight the gravity of the accusations concerning the Jafrabad riots.
