Today, the Uttar Pradesh Congress has declared an assembly gherao, prompting police and administration to remain on high alert. Even before Congress members could gather outside the UP Assembly, police began to detain them. Currently, the police have instructed UP Congress president Ajay Rai and dozens of other leaders, including outgoing general secretary Anil Yadav, to stay at home. Notices have also been sent to other leaders, advising them to remain indoors. Congress workers traveling from other districts to Lucknow have been stopped at the borders.
Lucknow's DCP Central Ravina Tyagi stated - Total prohibition on any form of protest around the assembly is in place. Compliance under Section 163 BNSS will be enforced. The assembly session is ongoing, and the comfort and security of our dignitaries and representatives will be paramount. Necessary actions will be taken duly.
Meanwhile, UP Congress chief Ajay Rai asserted that no one could stop our party workers; they are Congress and Rahul Gandhi's warriors, akin to fearsome lions. They will certainly stage the gherao of the assembly. The BJP government has destroyed the entire state, and we will hold them accountable. We adhere to Gandhian principles and will oppose the government in that spirit. Police are seizing our party workers' vehicles and oppressing them. I want to declare that when we return to power, we will annul all such opposition cases against our party workers.
Preparations for Assembly Protest in Lucknow
It is worth noting that the Congress Party has prepared extensively for the assembly gherao on Wednesday. Workers from several districts have arrived in Lucknow. During this time, police have sent notices to state president Ajay Rai, outgoing state general secretary Anil Yadav, Dinesh Singh, and over two dozen senior leaders.
Police have stationed guards at these leaders' homes since evening. The notice issued by the police states that the assembly session is in progress, and the protest poses a serious threat to law and order and the security of distinguished individuals.
In response, Congress state president Ajay Rai stated that in light of the BJP government's failures, the assembly gherao program has been planned. Thousands of workers from various districts have converged on Lucknow. They will not back down in the face of police administration's repressive tactics.
Keshav Maurya's Statement
Regarding the Congress protest, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya commented that UP is liberated from Congress, as they lack both leadership and vision. Congress will soon be relegated to the annals of history. The BJP will return to power in 2027. The protest is mere theatrics.
