As the nation heads towards the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party held a crucial press conference on Thursday. Under the presence of leading figures Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge targeted the Central Government regarding the electoral bonds issue.

Mr. Kharge insisted that for a functioning democracy, unbiased elections are paramount. There cannot be a condition where the ruling party monopolizes resources or media influence, nor can there be direct or indirect control over constitutional and judicial entities like the IT Department, Enforcement Directorate, and the Election Commission by those in power.

He expressed concern over recent disclosures about electoral bonds following the Supreme Court's intervention stating the facts that emerged are alarming and disgraceful, tarnishing the image of India's long-standing impartial electoral process and robust democracy over the last 70 years.

The ruling party is playing a dangerous game

Kharge warned about the implications of the Supreme Court deeming the election funding bonds illegal and unconstitutional, where the ruling party allegedly amassed funds in excess of thousands of crores into their accounts, while conspiratorially freezing the main opposition party's bank accounts to prevent them from competing fairly in elections. Such manipulations pose a serious threat to democracy as equality is essential for its survival.

These dangerous games by the ruling party clearly demonstrate that obstructing a political party from competing in elections by rendering them helpless does not constitute a fair election. Citizens can see that the BJP has secured 56% of the electoral bond funds while the Congress has only managed 11%.

We are striving to save democracy: Sonia Gandhi

During the event, senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi addressed the press, asserting their commitment to safeguard democracy, claiming that BJP has significantly benefited from electoral bonds.
