In preparation for the grand Mahakumbh 2025, the administration has initiated special measures to cater to the pilgrims' comfort. The construction of 150,000 toilets in Prayagraj is underway to maintain high standards of cleanliness and convenience. The authorities aim to have these facilities ready by December 15.
Akanksha Rana, the Special Officer for the Mahakumbh Fair, said cleanliness is the top priority, and this is why 150,000 toilets are being installed. A jet spray system for cleaning and a QR-code-based monitoring system for security will be utilized. Fifty-five vendors are involved in providing toilet and urinal facilities in the fair area.
Preparing 150,000 Toilets
With millions expected to visit during the key bathing festivals of Makar Sankranti and Mauni Amavasya, the administration has also decided to provide 49,000 soak-pit toilets, 12,000 FRP toilets, and 350 mobile toilets.
Additionally, the tourism department has launched the 'Paying Guest' scheme as a cost-effective, comfortable lodging option for pilgrims. Aparajita Singh, the Regional Tourism Officer, mentioned that local residents are being encouraged to register their homes for this facility. Training in hospitality, cleanliness, and proper conduct is provided under this scheme.
Prioritizing Cleanliness
A toll-free number and WhatsApp contact have been set up to facilitate this service. Initially, the goal is to include 2,000 homes, offering residents a three-year registration with flexible rental agreements. So far, 50 homes are registered, with more in the process.
A list of licensed 'Paying Guest' accommodations will be available on the fair administration's website and app, making it easier for pilgrims to find suitable lodging.
