Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing torrential rains for the past few days, resulting in landslides in several districts. An incident of cloudburst in Manali, Himachal Pradesh led to heavy rains and landslides in multiple locations.
Chandigarh-Manali National Highway Closed Due to Landslides
The administration has ordered the closure of the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway for two hours daily from July 27 to July 31 due to landslides. Under this order, the highway will be closed from 11 AM to 1 PM daily for five days between Mandi and Pandoh. DC Mandi, Apurva Devgan, informed that the NHAI had requested the administration to close the highway as there are sections between Mandi and Pandoh where landslides pose a threat.Large rocks and boulders are hanging precariously on the hillside in some areas and could fall at any time causing destruction. Hence, removing these rocks and boulders is essential. Similarly, debris from landslides needs to be cleared. Considering the safety of travelers, it has been decided to close the highway for two hours daily for five days.

During these two hours when traffic on the NH between Mandi and Pandoh is disrupted, people can use alternative routes. Those traveling from Mandi to Kullu-Manali can take the Kamand-Kataula-Bajoura route. If someone is coming from Kullu, they can take the Pandoh-Gohar-Chailchowk-Dadour route. Only small vehicles will be allowed on these alternate routes, while larger vehicles will have to wait on the highway.
Weather Department Issues Alert
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh. According to the Weather Department, heavy to very heavy rains are forecasted at one or two locations in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan. An orange alert has been issued for several areas. Moreover, bad weather is expected in Himachal Pradesh till July 29, with a forecast for heavy rains in the next 24 hours and a warning issued accordingly.
