Teams from the police and ATS are investigating the conspiracy to derail the Kalindi Express train in Kanpur. To uncover the case, five police teams have been formed. Additionally, two history-sheeters have been detained for questioning. On Sunday night around 8:30 PM, the Kalindi Express, traveling from Prayagraj to Bhivani, collided with an LPG cylinder placed on the railway tracks, causing the train to halt for about half an hour.

The investigation is focusing on who placed the cylinder on the tracks. The police are exploring whether people from an organization or outsiders are responsible. The sweet box filled with petrol and explosives, and the matchbox found at the site, are also under examination. ADCP LIU has also deployed a team for this investigation.

According to the police, on the night of September 8 around 8:30 PM, the Kalindi Express on the Anwar Ganj-Kasganj line between Barraju and Bilhaur clashed with an LPG cylinder placed on the tracks. The loco pilot reported seeing a suspicious object on the track and applied the brakes, but the train still collided with the object, resulting in a loud noise. The pilot then stopped the train and informed the guard and other officials about the incident.

Upon receiving the information, the railway superintendent of Anwar Ganj station, RPF, and other officials arrived at the scene. Investigations at the site revealed an LPG cylinder, bottles of petrol in a sweet box, explosives, and matches hidden in bushes. After halting the train for half an hour, it was allowed to proceed. Police and forensic teams have examined the site, sending all suspicious items for further analysis.

BJP MP Says Government Will Take Strict Action

Meanwhile, a BJP MP from Kanpur Dehat stated that the repeated targeting of Indian Railways by disruptive elements is a serious concern for the safety of trains and passengers. He mentioned, "The act of placing gas cylinders on the railway tracks to cause accidents is a grave matter. Incidents of stone-pelting on Vande Bharat trains keep surfacing. I assure the public that security agencies and the police are closely monitoring the situation and our government will take the strictest action against such anti-national disruptive elements."

Sabarmati Express Derailed with 22 Coaches

On the night of August 17, on the Kanpur-Jhansi route, 22 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed along with the engine. The train was traveling from Varanasi to Ahmedabad. The train's driver reported that the derailment occurred when a boulder hit the engine causing the cattle guard to bend severely. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav mentioned that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and UP Police are investigating the incident. All evidence has been secured for investigation.

Major Accident in Kanpur in 2016

Kanpur has witnessed several major railway accidents. In November 2016, the Indore-Patna Express derailed near Pukhraiyan station in Kanpur Dehat, resulting in around 150 deaths and over 150 injuries. This disaster ranks among the major rail accidents in the country. In 2017, the coaches of the Kaifiyat Express derailed near Auraiya, injuring over 70 passengers.
