'Sleepless nights...'

With Purnam Kumar Shaw's return, his home is filled with joy, and they're distributing sweets. A family member told journalists, "Today, we are very happy. We thank the central government and BSF officials for their efforts to bring him back safely. The past two weeks were filled with sleepless nights and uncertainty, continually concerned for his wellbeing."

'Relations could have deteriorated...'

Defense Expert Captain Anil Gaur (Retired) stated, "Our soldier inadvertently ended up in Pakistan. India appealed for his release, but Pakistan was being difficult. Through Operation Sindoor, India sent a clear message that such antics must stop, or else there will be repercussions. Hence, Pakistan decided to release him, as this could have further deteriorated India-Pakistan relations."

Pahalgam Terror Attack and Operation Sindoor

On April 22, 2025, Pakistan-supported terrorists attacked tourists and civilians in Pahalgam—one of the deadliest attacks in India since the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. This further reinforced India's zero tolerance policy.

In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. The Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy jointly destroyed terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK. This operation not only dismantled the terrorist infrastructure but also sent a clear message to Pakistan that India will not tolerate any terrorist activities.

After the operation, on the night of May 7-8, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on 15 Indian military bases like Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, and Amritsar. However, the integrated efforts of the Indian Navy, Air Force, and Army thwarted these attacks completely. The Indian Navy used its Carrier Battle Group and advanced air defense systems to neutralize Pakistani air threats at sea.
