Former BJP MP and ex-WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has responded to wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joining Congress. He said if they contest the Haryana assembly elections, any BJP candidate will defeat them. He also offered to campaign in the upcoming assembly elections if the party permits.
Speaking to journalists at his Vishnoharpur residence, he said these wrestlers (Vinesh-Bajrang) gained fame through wrestling. Now, after joining Congress, their names will fade away.
According to PTI, Brij Bhushan Singh said these people think politics is a breeze and believe they will win assembly elections from Haryana. Any small BJP candidate will defeat them. He said he would campaign for the Haryana assembly elections if his party asks and claimed he would get ample support from their community. He is ready to campaign for BJP candidates against them.
Brij Bhushan Singh claimed that during the Lok Sabha elections, the people of Haryana said they would ensure his victory if he contested from there, but he declined. He said many Congress leaders joined wrestlers' protests under the guise of seeking justice. Wrestlers were used as pawns, and he accused Congress of collaborating with wrestlers to ruin wrestling in the country.
He asserted that no one knew about wrestling in India during Congress rule. His efforts as WFI President brought wrestling recognition, and wrestlers won medals in international competitions. He also mentioned that while wrestlers were protesting in Delhi, junior and senior wrestling competitions were held in Nandini Nagar (Gonda).
Brij Bhushan Singh alleged that protesters managed to cancel those competitions, resulting in junior and senior wrestlers missing out on age-group matches. He reiterated that the protests were a Congress conspiracy. What he said on the first day stands true today, and the whole nation agrees; he feels there's no need to say more.
The BJP leader said senior Congress leaders from Haryana, Deepender Singh Hooda and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, are conspiring against him. He refrained from commenting further on the incident to prevent it from escalating in Haryana. The entire nation awaits Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's remarks on this issue.
