The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to form the government in Haryana for the third time, yet details about key figures, including the Chief Minister and Cabinet members, remain undecided. Nonetheless, a government advertisement in newspapers has sparked discussions, featuring Nayab Saini alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inviting attendees to the swearing-in ceremony. Details on timing and location have also been shared, with Prime Minister Modi expected to attend.
Indeed, the BJP's legislative meeting is slated to occur on Wednesday in Panchkula. Overseeing this meeting are key figures, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh's CM Mohan Yadav. While the official announcement of the new CM is pending, the Haryana government's advertisement has hinted heavily, presenting a program with Modi and Saini, suggesting the party trusts Saini. Why is the Advertisement Controversial?
Traditionally, the final decision regarding the Chief Minister in the BJP is made during a legislative meeting, where a consensus is reached, and the chosen name announced by central observers. However, despite all leaders staking claims, the ultimate decision rests with the party's parliamentary board and central leadership. Notably, figures like Anil Vij and Rao Inderjit have been aspirants in Haryana for the CM role.
Historically, Central Home Minister Amit Shah has insinuated at rallies that Nayab Saini would be the next CM. The Haryana Assembly elections were led under Saini's leadership, winning the Ladwa seat in Kurukshetra district. Saini was first appointed as CM on March 12, 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP has made a record by clinching the assembly three times, winning 48 of the 90 seats, with the Congress securing 37 seats. Additionally, three independent MLAs have declared their support for the BJP.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new government is scheduled for October 17. Following today's legislative meeting, the Governor will receive the list of MLAs to be sworn in as Cabinet and State Ministers, subsequently receiving a formal invitation for the event on October 17.
Attendees will include Prime Minister Modi, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, NDA allies, and invitations extended to opposition leaders, progressive farmers, prosperous entrepreneurs and various social organizations.
