The BJP has unveiled its fourth list for the Maharashtra assembly elections, naming candidates for two constituencies. Narendra Mehta secures the ticket for Meera Bhayander, with Sudhir Parwe running from the Umred seat.
As the final date for filing nominations arrives today (October 29), the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Mahayuti alliances have yet to announce candidates for all 288 seats. The Mahayuti coalition includes BJP, Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar's faction of the NCP, and several smaller local parties. On the other hand, the MVA is comprised of Congress, Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray faction, Sharad Pawar's NCP faction, among other minor parties.
Candidates to be Announced for 7 More Mahayuti Seats
So far, Mahayuti has declared candidates for 281 out of 288 seats. They have fielded 148 candidates from BJP, 78 from Shiv Sena, 49 from Ajit Pawar's NCP, and 6 from other allied parties. The Republican Party of India (A) led by Ramdas Athawale will contest from Kalina, Yuva Swabhiman Party from Badnera, Nationalist Social Party from Gangakhed, Jan Surajya Shakti Party from Shahuvari, Jan Surajya Paksha from Hatkanangale, and Rajshree Shahu Vikas Aghadi from Shirol. Mahayuti still needs to announce candidates for 7 more seats.
MVA Finalizes 265 Candidates
Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi has proclaimed candidates for 265 seats. Congress and Shiv Sena UBT have declared nominees for 102 and 84 seats, respectively, while Sharad Pawar's NCP has announced candidates for 82 constituencies. The MVA still has 21 seats where candidates are yet confirmed. Sharad Pawar's faction has revised its candidate for Nagpur's Katol seat by replacing Maharashtra's former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh with his son, Salil Deshmukh.
