After their recent triumph in Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now strategically shifting its focus to the OBC vote bank for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh by-elections. Mirroring their successful OBC voter engagement in Haryana, BJP is gearing up to apply the same formula in UP, with plans to launch a distinct campaign led by the Backward Class Morcha.
BJP achieved significant support from the OBC community in Haryana, pivoting on a high-impact strategy of appointing a new face as Chief Minister before the elections. Replacing Manohar Lal Khattar, BJP appointed Nayab Singh Saini, an OBC community member, which visibly influenced the election results. Following a similar trajectory, BJP aims to replicate this strategy in the UP by-elections, striving to secure OBC support.
In Uttar Pradesh, over 50% of the electorate belongs to the OBC community. Hence, the BJP's Backward Class Morcha is set to remain actively engaged with these voters, assuring them that the party champions their rights and reservations, promising no compromise.
Recently, a three-day strategic meeting between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP was convened to address this critical issue in Uttar Pradesh. Strategies were earmarked to dispel any perceptions among the OBC community that their rights would be undermined. Sunil Ambekar, the prominent leader in RSS campaigns, plays a pivotal role in this outreach.
In an interview with India Today, BJP state spokesperson Alok Awasthi remarked that in Haryana, the party stood beside all 36 communities resulting in Congress's significant defeat. He emphasized, 'In the upcoming elections, we will ensure unity and continue to garner public support.'
