Will 3.5 Million Names Be Removed in Bihar Voter Verification?

The Election Commission's rigorous campaign for verifying and revising the voter list in Bihar nears its final stage. Initiated on June 24, the process now has 11 days left. Out of 79 million voters, 66,067,208 have submitted their verification forms, which accounts for approximately 88% of the total electorate. In this endeavour, the removal of names affects more than 3,569,000 voters.

On the Election Commission's website, more than 57.4 million forms have been uploaded thus far. Following two rounds of household surveys, 1.59% of voters were found deceased, 2.2% have permanently changed their residence, and 0.73% are registered at multiple locations. This culminates to 4.52% of voters, translating to over 3,569,000 individuals.

According to the Election Commission, only 11.82% of voters are yet to submit their filled verification forms. Assurances are in place to avoid leaving any eligible voter behind. Approximately 100,000 Booth Level Officers will soon begin the third round of house-to-house surveys, alongside the support of 150,000 political party Booth Level Agents.

Special camps are being organized across 5,683 wards of all 261 urban local bodies in Bihar. Awareness campaigns are reaching out to voters temporarily residing outside the state, urging them to submit their verification forms on time. The draft of the voter list is slated for publication on August 1.
