Bihar: Strongman Anant Singh loses MLA ship, Assembly Secretariat orders after AK-47 case conviction

Anant Singh, a powerful leader from Bihar, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the MP MLA court. After the court's judgement, there was a cloud hanging over his MLA status. Now, Anant Singh has lost his assembly membership. The assembly secretariat has issued an order terminating the membership of RJD's Anant Singh.

The in-charge Secretary of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Pawan Kumar, has issued the order removing Anant Singh from his position as an MLA. The order states that Anant Singh, the Mokama MLA, loses his assembly membership effective from the date of his conviction by the MP MLA court.

The assembly secretariat's order also mentions that the members' list should be updated accordingly. Notably, on June 21, the MP MLA court sentenced Anant Singh, popularly known as 'Chhote Sarkar', to 10 years in prison under the Arms Act.

Anant Singh received this sentence for an incident in 2019. In 2019, the police conducted a raid at Anant Singh's house. During the hours-long operation, police recovered an AK-47. In this high-profile case, Anant Singh played hide and seek with the police for several days.

After evading the Bihar police for three to four days, Anant Singh surrendered in Delhi's Tis Hazari Court. Following this, the Bihar police brought Anant Singh back to Patna from Delhi. The MP MLA court found Anant Singh guilty in this case and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. In 2020, Anant Singh was elected as the MLA for the Mokama constituency on an RJD ticket.
