In Mokama, located within Bihar's Patna district, 80 people have been apprehended in relation to the murder of Jan Suraj Party supporter Dular Chandra Yadav. Among those arrested figures the JDU Mokama candidate, Anant Singh. On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, police detained Anant Singh, Manikant Thakur, and Ranjit Ram.
Defendants Remanded to Judicial Custody
On Sunday, the three accused were presented in Patna court where they were sanctioned to 14 days of judicial custody. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma reported that so far, five FIRs have been filed, and the probe is ongoing, indicating more arrests may follow.
Postmortem Confirms Homicide
The postmortem report indicates that Dular Chandra Yadav's death was indeed murder. The report details injuries due to a hard object impacting the heart and lungs, resulting in cardio-respiratory failure and demise. Preliminary investigation corroborates that this is a homicide.
Security Intensified Post-Incident
The Mokama region has seen heightened security with 13 companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces stationed there. Additionally, two Special Task Force (STF) units and four Quick Response Teams (QRT) from Patna Police are actively monitoring the area, with strict vigilance on the activities of electoral candidates.

Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar declared stringent action against those violating election codes of conduct while maintaining that no one will be permitted to take the law into their own hands. In response to Anant Singh’s arrest, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav commented that it was inevitable, albeit delayed. He expressed concern over Bihar's deteriorating law and order, stating that murders have become routine.
