This entire incident unwound in a village of Bhadohi's Aurai police area, where the accused, Mukesh, harbored one-sided affection for a young woman considered his niece by distant relation. Upon discovering that she was engaged, Mukesh was livid, devising plans to disrupt the wedding.
Allegedly, on Sunday morning, Mukesh arrived at the young woman's home. Finding her asleep, he threw acid through the window, fled the scene hurling threats, and spewed vulgarities. As acid touched her face and hands, she screamed for help; her family rushed her to the hospital, where she received treatment for partial burns.
The family promptly reported the incident to the police, who launched a manhunt for Mukesh. Acting on a tip-off, during a vehicle check, the authorities attempted to arrest him. Reportedly, Mukesh attempted to fire at the officers, prompting return fire in self-defense, injuring Mukesh's leg, leading to his subsequent capture. He is being treated at Aurai Community Health Center.
Additional SP Shubham Agrawal stated that Mukesh's actions stemmed from unrequited love. Post encounter, the injured culprit is under medical care and is stable. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday.
