For the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP announced candidates in its fifth list, selecting Rajmata Amrita Roy to represent the Krishnanagar seat in West Bengal. She is set to challenge TMC's Mahua Moitra. The TMC has targeted Rajmata Amrita Roy with allegations.

The TMC claims that the BJP's decision to field Rajmata Amrita Roy, whose family supported the British, signifies their historical alliance with colonial powers. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh articulated that while Bengal's Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah was leading the front against the British, the royal family of Krishnanagar under King Krishna Chandra Roy assisted British forces.

Kunal Ghosh highlighted historical records showing the royal family's support for the British during Siraj ud-Daulah's confrontation with the colonizers. He sarcastically noted that the party responsible for Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, led by Savarkar, has selected a descendant from a family that sided with the British. In contrast, Mahua Moitra stands against corruption.

Moitra has been TMC's candidate from Krishnanagar, victorious in the 2019 elections. However, she lost her parliamentary membership last year due to the 'Cash-for-Query scandal.

Rajmata Amrita Roy Denies TMC's Claims

Roy refuted TMC's allegations, stating belief that every Bengali and Indian would agree that the accusations against her family are blatant falsehoods. She questioned why Maharaja Krishna Chandra Roy would side with the British, suggesting it was due to Siraj ud-Daulah's oppression.

Roy argued whether the Hindu religion and Sanatan Dharma would have survived without her ancestor's decision. She defended that the Maharaja protected them from sectarian attacks.
