The blow resonates as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveils this year's central contracts, showing the exit door to Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer.
BCCI Central Contract Players List (October 2023 to September 2024)
Grade A+
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja.
Grade A
R Ashwin, M. Shami, M. Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Hardik Pandya.
Grade B
Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Grade C
Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, and Rajat Patidar.
Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and Vidwath Kaverappa have been included in the fast bowling contract.
The previous contract placed Shreyas in B category and Ishan in C, with Shreyas earning an annual 3 crores and Ishan at 1 crore. However, they now face a multi-crore revenue cut. Aside from these two, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel were downgraded from A to B grade, while Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped from B grade. Umesh Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Deepak Hooda, and Yuzvendra Chahal have also been released from C grade. Alongside them, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, and Rajat Patidar have secured spots in C grade.
Salaries Spanning Four Categories
The BCCI contract list covers four categories, with A+ earning 7 crores, A with 5 crores, B at 3 crores, and C, the lowest, at 1 crore annually. The inclusion in these categories follows certain criteria, with A+ accommodating players active across all three formats (Test, ODI, and T20).
Emerging stars Dhruv Jurel, the star wicketkeeper, and the explosive batsman Sarfaraz Khan still have a chance to be included in grade C. According to the BCCI press release, any player participating in 3 Tests, or 8 ODIs, or 10 T20 Internationals during the season from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024, will be included in grade C. For instance, Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan have already played 2 Test matches against England in the series. If they play the last match in Dharamshala, they will be included in grade C.
