A tragic incident unfolded in Basti, Uttar Pradesh, where a man lost his life after being hit by a BMW car. This horrific event occurred near the Kartar Talkies area, within the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station. The victim, identified as Ramlal Gupta, was a cook by profession. His wife, Gyanti Devi, alleges that the young man driving the car intentionally ran over her husband.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon. Ramlal had just returned home from cooking and went out for a stroll. It was then that a local youth, Honey alias Azmatullah, drove through the lane in his BMW, striking Ramlal. The family rushed Ramlal to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Gyanti Devi claims that at the time of the accident, the accused's father, BJP leader Hamidullah, was also in the car. The family alleges that due to the father-son's influence, the police are not taking strict action against them. Ramlal Gupta is survived by four children, two daughters, and two sons, for whom nurturing has now become a daunting challenge.
Following the incident, CO Sadar, Satyendra Bhushan Tiwari, reached the scene to investigate. He stated that a legal case has been registered based on the family's complaint, and legal proceedings are underway.
After this, the family staged a protest on the street with the body post-mortem. Though they relented following police assurances, the final rites have been performed. Currently, the police are on the lookout for the accused, Honey, and his father, Hamidullah, who have been absconding since the incident. The police assure that the arrest will be made soon.
