A heart-stopping incident transpired on Monday early morning in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. A pack of stray dogs launched a relentless attack on 60-year-old Dayaram in the village of Mehandia under the Subha police station area, tearing into him with ferocity. Despite efforts to save him by rushing to Lucknow’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Dayaram tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Dragged from His Cot and Mauled in the Fields
According to the family, it was around four in the morning when the assault occurred. Dayaram was peacefully asleep on a cot outside his home when more than ten dogs descended upon him. These dogs dragged him a considerable distance into the fields, mauling him severely in the process. Hearing the commotion, the family intervened, managing with great difficulty to rescue Dayaram from the dogs' clutches and rush him to the hospital.
Village Gripped by Fear, Authorities Pass the Buck
The village remains steeped in fear following this tragic event. Residents have taken to patrolling the streets armed with sticks and attempting to fend off the marauding dogs. Villagers accuse the administration of ignoring the ever-growing stray dog menace, which continues unabated. When complaints were raised, the animal husbandry and forest departments passed the responsibility, stating the issue was beyond their jurisdiction, refusing action. Now, local residents are demanding intervention by the municipal council.
Women and Children Afraid to Venture Outside
Villagers express their distress over packs of dogs prowling the lanes and fields at nightfall. The situation has grown so perilous that women and children are hesitant to step outside their homes. The community demands prompt action by the authorities, urging the roundup of dangerous dogs to ensure their village's safety.
