A Bangladeshi national has been caught in Kolkata’s bustling Park Street with counterfeit documents in hand. The local police have revealed that the individual was living illegally in India, attempting to blend in by obtaining fake identification documents. Currently, efforts are underway to trace the sources behind these fabricated pieces.

Authorities note that the arrested individual hails from Bangladesh’s Narail district. On Thursday, acting on a tip-off, he was captured in Collins Lane. Further investigations disclosed that since 2023, he resided in a rented accommodation in Kolkata's Khidirpur. According to the police, the accused procured a fake Aadhaar card, falsely listing an address in North 24 Parganas.

Moreover, he had produced a PAN card under his name. Notably, another Bangladeshi national had also been detained recently from the Marquis Street area near Park Street with similar fraudulent papers. Investigative agencies are actively searching for the syndicate behind the creation of these phony documents, while questioning of the detained individuals continues.

Earlier, Assam police had apprehended eight militants associated with a banned Islamic group, two of whom were captured from West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. This situation underscores growing concerns about illegal infiltration by foreign nationals and their operations within India.

Authorities assert that these arrests will pave the way for identifying other illegally residing foreign nationals and dismantling the networks of forged documents.
