Retired Lieutenant General Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chaudhary, Advisor on Home Affairs for Bangladesh, announced on Saturday that Indian nationals residing illegally in Bangladesh will be repatriated through proper diplomatic channels. Following the inauguration of the third temporary border outpost in Satkhira, Chaudhary spoke with Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha (BSS), stating that unlike some countries, Bangladesh prefers diplomacy over pressure tactics to resolve issues.
He emphasized, 'Bangladesh has always adhered to international laws and protocols.' Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chaudhary mentioned, 'An official letter has already been dispatched to India from the Ministry of External Affairs. Senior diplomatic dialogues are actively maintained by Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hussain and National Security Advisor for Rohingya affairs Khalilur Rahman.' The Indian government has been informed that if any Bangladeshi citizens are residing illegally in India, they should be repatriated through formal channels.
If any Indian national is found staying in Bangladesh without authorization, they will be returned following legal procedures. Chaudhary stressed, 'We have requested that the Indian side ceases unauthorized entries, supporting return processes through official procedures.' Following recent incidents, Chaudhary remarked on an attempted infiltration on the Brahmanbaria border, which was countered effectively with the assistance of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar personnel, and local residents. 'When local communities stay alert and unified, such intrusions can be thwarted.'
These statements come at a time when India is intensifying its efforts to deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. States like Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat are running campaigns to identify and deport illegal immigrants, with the majority being Bangladeshi nationals who are sent back following necessary procedures.
In related news, several incidents have been reported where Bangladeshi citizens have been arrested in areas like Nuh and Haridwar for residing and working without proper documentation.
