A tragic road accident in Assam's Golaghat district has resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals. In addition, 27 people suffered serious injuries, with several passengers in critical condition, raising concerns of a potential increase in the death toll. Upon receiving news of the accident, police and administrative teams arrived at the scene.
The incident occurred near Balijan village in Golaghat's Dergaon. At the time of the accident, 45 people were aboard the bus, which had departed at 3 a.m. from Athkhelia for a picnic at Bogibeel. Around 5 a.m., the bus collided with a coal-laden truck coming from Margherita. The rescue team quickly arrived and transported the injured to JMCH, where many passengers remain in serious condition.
Picnickers Heading to Tilinga Temple
Police have reported that all bus passengers were en route to Tilinga Temple in Tinsukia for a picnic. Those injured are currently receiving treatment at Jorhat Medical College. The bodies of the 14 deceased passengers have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examination as the police initiate an investigation into the incident.
Prior Tragedy in Dibrugarh
Previously, a serious road accident was reported in Assam's Dibrugarh district. On September 11, 2023, a horrific road accident resulted in the immediate deaths of two individuals, while six others sustained injuries. Several individuals from Sivasagar, visiting Dibrugarh’s Shantipada for a family event, were involved in the incident. As they returned to Sivasagar, their car collided with a truck at Leatekata, causing the vehicle to overturn and shatter.
