Amid the unrest in neighboring Bangladesh, Assam Police are on high alert at the India-Bangladesh border to prevent any illegal entry into the state. Director General of Police G.P. Singh mentioned that the central government has issued directives ensuring that no individual is allowed to enter India illegally from Bangladesh.
During a media interaction at a book launch event, Singh stated, 'The Border Security Force (BSF) stands as the first line of defense on the border, with Assam Police on high alert as the secondary line.'
The DGP added, 'However, there is a provision where Indian passport holders, primarily students and traders, will be allowed entry only if their documents are validated after proper verification.'
He noted that another directive from the center mandates that citizens of the neighboring country be sent back to Bangladesh through secure corridors after verifying their passports and visas. The DGP further stated, 'Apart from these activities, no individual has entered the state. Assam Police is jointly patrolling with the BSF.'
