The president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has sharply condemned the recent attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. He expressed his party's support for the Indian government's initiatives aimed at strengthening India-Bangladesh ties. Owaisi stated, 'On behalf of our party, we denounce these incidents involving Dipu Chandra Das and Amrit Mandal. We fully support the Indian government's efforts to strengthen relations with Bangladesh.'
Furthermore, he noted that Bangladesh was founded on secular Bengali nationalism and is home to about twenty million non-Muslim minorities. Owaisi expressed hope that tensions between the two countries will not escalate, and that interim government leader Muhammad Yunus will ensure the safety of all minorities. He warned that these incidents in Bangladesh run contrary to the country's constitutional order. Owaisi emphasized that Bangladesh's stability is crucial for India's security, especially for the northeastern states.
Anti-India Forces Active in Bangladesh: Owaisi
Owaisi commented on the ousting of Sheikh Hasina's government, saying a revolutionary change is occurring in Bangladesh, and after the elections in February, the bilateral relations will likely improve. However, he warned that Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, along with China and other anti-India forces, have become active in Bangladesh and need to be closely monitored. Asaduddin Owaisi also expressed sorrow over the mob lynching of a West Bengal worker in Odisha.
He remarked, 'We cannot overlook the incidents occurring in our country. On December 24, a worker from West Bengal was lynched in Sambalpur, Odisha. Similarly, a tribal MBA student from Uttarakhand, Angel Chakma, was beaten to death. These events clearly indicate that when the rule of law weakens and majoritarian politics dominate, such lynching incidents rise. Every such incident deserves condemnation.'
Owaisi's statement comes at a time when reports of attacks on minority communities, particularly Hindus, have surfaced following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh. The Indian government has also expressed concerns over these events and urged Bangladesh's interim government to ensure the security of minorities.
