During a procession in Malviya Nagar, Arvind Kejriwal, former Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party's National Convenor, was targeted with water. According to police sources, an individual attempted to splash water on Kejriwal. The police immediately detained the person, who has been identified as Ashok Jha, for questioning.
Reacting to the attack, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed that while BJP leaders hold rallies across states without facing any attacks, Kejriwal has been a frequent target. He mentioned past attacks in Nangloi and Chhatarpur, pointing to a faltering law and order situation in Delhi. Bharadwaj alleged the assailant is directly linked to BJP.
Following the incident, Kejriwal remarked, 'Mr. Amit Shah, what will stopping me achieve? Address crime in Delhi. Will halting me reduce crime, end public shoot-outs, ensure the safety of women and traders in Delhi?'
CM Atishi claims BJP worker attacked Kejriwal.
In her statement, Delhi CM Atishi said a BJP worker launched an attack on Kejriwal today in broad daylight. She commented that the BJP's desperation over its third electoral defeat in Delhi is manifesting in such acts, indicating that the public will soon exact their own revenge through votes.
Sprit thrown at Kejriwal, says Saurabh Bharadwaj
After the attack, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj asserted at a press conference that spirit was thrown on Kejriwal, alleging an attempt to set him ablaze on the road. Bharadwaj claimed that the attacker held a matchstick in one hand and spirit in the other.
DTC bus marshal identified as Ashok Jha
Bharadwaj revealed that the attacker, Ashok Jha, works as a bus marshal in Delhi’s DTC buses stationed at Khanpur Depot. He criticized Delhi Police for failing to safeguard both residents and the former Chief Minister. He further alleged Jha’s affiliation with the BJP, noting repeated attacks on Kejriwal, including attempts in Vikaspuri and disruption during the Burari tour by BJP operatives.
Cowardly attack on Kejriwal: Raghav Chadha
AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha described the attack as cowardly, lamenting that it follows Kejriwal’s recent campaign highlighting Delhi’s deteriorating law and order. Denouncing the attack as reprehensible, Chadha emphasized there is no place for violence in democratic politics, affirming that Kejriwal is blessed with the support of millions of people, citing ‘Jako Rakhe Saiyan, Mar Sake Na Koi’ as a testament to his resilience.
