How Artificial Intelligence Works in Cricket:
AI (Artificial Intelligence) is now assisting people in various fields, and it has made its entry into cricket as well. Due to the long spell of poor performance by the Pakistani team, major changes are being implemented in cricket. Recently, 80% of the 150 players in Pakistan were selected through AI, while 20% were selected using the traditional method involving human selectors...
Overall, the update is that AI (Artificial Intelligence) aims to revamp the Pakistani team. Underperforming players will be replaced, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has crafted a plan for this.
This entire plan comes from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. According to Naqvi, players for the Champions Cup will be evaluated using AI, and then they will be inducted into the Pakistani team. Conversely, underperforming players will be removed from the team.
In fact, the Pakistani cricket team had an extremely poor performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. They also lost the recent Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. This prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board to implement AI systems in cricket selection and performance evaluation.

Naqvi further stated that the Champions Cup will conclude in September, and records for everyone will be maintained. Anyone not performing will be replaced immediately. This should not be based on personal opinions or desires.
Previously, the PCB nominated its top 5 cricketers as mentors for teams in the Champions Cup. Mohsin Naqvi announced this decision in a press release, naming Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, and Waqar Younis as mentors for the 5 teams, assisting domestic cricketers in improving their game.
Pakistan Lacks Player Records, Hence the Use of AI
Indeed, recently the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made a peculiar statement, claiming that there is no data on domestic players, which hampers the selection policy.
Naqvi stated that there were many players whose records were missing. This Champions Cup will strengthen domestic cricket, creating a pool of 150 players. In a surprising statement, he added that AI was used for team selection for the Champions Cup.
PCB Chairperson Naqvi remarked that of the 150 players selected, 80% were chosen by AI and 20% by human selectors, and no one can challenge this method. They gave about 20% weightage to the selection committee. If any underperforming player is kept in place of a better one, he said, complaints would arise. Hence, with recorded evidence, it would be transparent to see who truly deserves a place in the team.
