The 2024 Rich List of India's 334 billionaires is out, and Gautam Adani has taken the top spot. Right behind him is Reliance Industries' Mukesh Ambani, making Adani the richest individual in India according to the Hurun Rich List. Following Mukesh Ambani is Shiv Nadar. For the first time, more than 300 Indian billionaires have been included in the list, a significant increase compared to the list released 13 years ago.
The 2024 Hurun Rich List shows substantial growth, with over 1,500 individuals possessing assets worth ₹1,000 crore or more. This marks a 150% increase compared to seven years ago. Hurun India has identified a total of 1,539 ultra-wealthy individuals, showing a notable increase of 220 from last year.
Many Newcomers Included for the First Time
The 2024 Hurun Rich List includes more than 1,500 individuals for the first time, an 86% increase over the past five years. These individuals have assets exceeding ₹1,000 crore. Additionally, 334 of these individuals possess wealth in the billions for the first time.
Gautam Adani's Net Worth
Gautam Adani (62) and his family have achieved the top position in the 2024 Hurun India Rich List with a wealth of ₹11.6 lakh crore. Their assets have surged by 95%, propelling them to this leading position. According to the report, Gautam Adani and his family have rebounded like a phoenix after accusations by Hindenburg, increasing their wealth by 95% to ₹11,61,800 crore over the past year.

Why Did Adani's Wealth Increase?
The significant rise in Adani's wealth can be attributed to the sharp increase in the stock prices of Adani Group companies. For instance, Adani Ports recorded a 98% growth, driven by enhanced operational capacity and the upcoming acquisition of additional ports and container terminals. Similarly, the energy sector companies—Adani Energy, Adani Gas, Adani Transmission, and Adani Power—saw nearly a 76% surge in their stock prices.
Mukesh Ambani's Wealth
After Gautam Adani, Mukesh Ambani occupies the second position with a total wealth of ₹10,14,700 crore, reflecting a 25% increase compared to last year. In third place is HCL founder Shiv Nadar and his family, with a total wealth of ₹314,000 crore. Following them is the famous vaccine tycoon Cyrus S. Poonawalla with assets worth ₹289,800 crore, placing him fourth on the list.
Shah Rukh Khan Also on the List
Hurun India's founder and chief researcher Anas Rahman Junaid mentioned that India continues to win gold medals in the 'Wealth Creation Olympics.' All the top 20 sectors have new faces. India is emerging as Asia's wealth creation engine! While China experienced a 25% decline in the number of billionaires, India saw a 29% increase, reaching a record 334 billionaires.
The 2024 Hurun India Rich List also includes famous Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, aged 58, with a total wealth of ₹7,300 crore. Khan's fortune primarily comes from his investments in the Kolkata Knight Riders cricket team and Red Chillies Entertainment. Following him in the film industry are Juhi Chawla and her family, Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, and Amitabh Bachchan.
