The crackdown on Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in Durg, Chhattisgarh is ongoing. A joint team of Durg police and STF raided Supela Contractor Colony in the Vaishali Nagar Assembly area. Here, they arrested a Bangladeshi woman and her husband. This is the second major operation by STF in four days. During questioning, the woman gave her name as Jyoti and the man as Rasel Sheikh. Upon checking the documents, it was revealed the woman's real name is Shahida Khatun, a Bangladeshi citizen.
Durg SSP Vijay Agrawal stated that they received information about a couple living in Contractor Colony with false identities. The police acted swiftly and detained both. The investigation revealed that 35-year-old Shahida Khatun married Mohammad Rasel, also from Bangladesh, in 2017. They entered India using passports and visas. Shahida's visa expired on September 13, 2018, and Rasel's on April 12, 2020.

Even after their visas expired, the couple continued to reside illegally in India. STF also discovered Shahida Khatun fabricated documents while living in India. She obtained an Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, and even a passport under the name 'Jyoti.' She was living in a rented house in the Supela police station area of Bhilai and kept in touch with her family in Bangladesh via WhatsApp and internet calls.
The investigation by the Durg police revealed that Shahida had previously entered India illegally in 2009. She crossed the Bangladesh-India international border and entered the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. From there, she traveled through Howrah to Mumbai, working as a laborer.
During that time, she met Mohammad Rasel. After some time, they returned to West Bengal and got married. Later, they went back to Bangladesh and returned to India via passport and visa in 2017, never leaving again. According to the police, Mohammad Rasel has been accused in a robbery case in the past. Currently, the police have filed charges against both for violating the Foreigners Act and creating forged documents, and further investigation is ongoing.
