Home Minister Amit Shah has arrived in Varanasi for a two-day visit. In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency, Shah will meet with the Chief Ministers from the central zone. The central zone includes the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. To attend this first-ever meeting in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai have all reached this spiritual city.
The agenda for the central zone meeting includes discussions on issues impacting two or more states, fostering collaboration. The council aims to expedite the investigation of sexual offenses against women and children, establish fast-track courts, and provide brick-and-mortar banking facilities in every village.

The meeting will also discuss rapid emergency assistance, strengthening education, health, electricity, urban planning, and cooperative systems. The country is divided into five zones with a council for each, as per the State Reorganization Act 1956, sections 15 to 22. Every state and union territory is a member of its zone's council, chaired by the Union Minister for Home Affairs, with state and union territory chief ministers or administrators as members.

Each zone's council rotates its vice-chairs annually, with state chief ministers taking turns. Every council has a permanent committee at the chief secretary level. Notably, Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Varanasi a day early to chair this meeting. Upon his arrival, Shah visited Bhairav Temple for prayers.
