Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar Singh stated that Sunil originally hailed from the Raebareli district and was employed at a government school in Amethi's Panhauna region. Preliminary police investigations revealed that Sunil's wife Poonam had filed an FIR on August 18 against Chandan Verma under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and for molestation.
The complaint also mentioned that should anything happen to her or her family, Chandan Verma would be held accountable. Senior officials from Lucknow are also being dispatched to Amethi. The crime scene is located approximately 60 kilometers from the district headquarters.
