As Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party, steers into the election fray of 'Fragrance City' Kannauj, BJP candidate and current MP Subrat Pathak likened it to a showdown between India and Pakistan. In response to this, Akhilesh declared his readiness to score big right from the outset, aiming to hit a six on the very first ball.
Akhilesh Yadav, the national president of the Samajwadi Party, has filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections from Kannauj, a city known for its perfumes. Initially, the party had roped in Akhilesh's nephew, a former MP from Mainpuri, Tej Pratap Yadav, but his ticket was abruptly canceled.
When Tej Pratap was declared the nominee from Kannauj, Subrat Pathak remarked that it would be a match between India and Nepal. However, with Akhilesh joining the battle, the BJP candidate stirred interest by saying it's now a compelling India vs. Pakistan match.
Akhilesh Yadav Claps Back at Subrat Pathak
In a witty retort matching the cricketing analogy, Akhilesh stated his intent to kick off with an impressive play, signaling his confidence to score a six on the first ball. When asked about the seats in Amethi and Rae Bareli, he predicted that the party festivities will unfold grandly, with BJP facing defeat in Uttar Pradesh.
What Did Subrat Pathak Say?
Subrat suggested that a match against Tej Pratap Yadav would resemble an India-Nepal contest. But with the match set against Pakistan, he boasted that India always triumphs in World Cups, alluding to a win for his own party, BJP. He went on to say that their philosophy aligns with India's interests, in stark contrast to the opposition's, which he criticized for having affiliations with corruption and deceit.
The Political Inception of Akhilesh Yadav in Kannauj
Akhilesh has represented Kannauj as an MP before and began his political innings from this very seat. After his father, Mulayam Singh, resigned, Akhilesh won the by-election and went on to become Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2012.
Akhilesh Yadav Takes a Stand in Kannauj Once Again
When Akhilesh relinquished the seat for chief ministership in 2012, it was Dimple Yadav, his wife, who entered politics. Although Dimple secured victory in 2014 despite the Modi wave, in 2019 she suffered a setback as the SP's stronghold in Kannauj slipped away despite an alliance with the BSP and RLD. Now, as Akhilesh re-enters the fray, the constituency steers towards an intense battle between the BJP and SP.
