The investigation into the suicide of AI Engineer Atul Subhash, who reached his limit due to the alleged torment from his wife in Bengaluru, is underway. A Bengaluru Police team has traveled to Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh to pursue the inquiry. Based on the allegations in Atul Subhash's suicide note and video, a case has been filed against his wife Nikita Singhania, her mother-in-law Nisha Singhania, brother-in-law Anurag Singhania, and uncle Sushil for abetting the suicide.
The police team from Bengaluru is set to interrogate all four accused. A senior officer stated, "We are examining all accusations. This case is being explored from every possible angle." In preliminary investigations, it was revealed that Atul Subhash was in a marital conflict with his wife, and complaints were lodged against him. He had to frequently travel between Bengaluru and Uttar Pradesh, which troubled him greatly.
"If This Continues, Men Will Turn Into ATM Machines"
On Monday, Atul Subhash was found hanging at his residence in the Manjunath Layout area under the Marathahalli Police Station in Bengaluru. His younger brother, Vikas Modi, arrived upon receiving the news. He expressed, "I want justice for my brother. I urge for a legal system in this country that provides justice to men, too. I seek stern action against those engaged in corruption while holding legal positions."
Pointing out corruption within the system, Vikas Modi stated that hopes for justice arise only when every side is heard equally, and arguments are presented based on facts. Failing to do so may erode public trust in the justice system, leading to a scenario where people fear marriage, worrying about transforming into monetary providers—like ATM machines—automatically.
Suicide Note: "I Deserve Justice"
Before taking his life, engineer Atul Subhash penned a 24-page suicide note and recorded a video. In the video, he is heard saying, "I feel compelled to end my life because the money I am earning is empowering my adversaries. They are using that same money to destroy me, and the cycle continues. I deserve justice, or else my ashes should be cast away in the drain."
Atul's uncle, Pawan Kumar, accused that his nephew was tormented and harassed for money. His wife, Nikita Singhania, and a judge purportedly humiliated him. "What transpired is deeply unfortunate. He was losing the case filed by his wife and was being harassed. They (the wife and her family) kept demanding money. Despite providing his child's sustenance to his best ability, their demands only escalated," he added.
"Wife Said: If You Can't Give Money, Just Kill Yourself"
Pawan Kumar revealed that Atul's in-laws initially demanded 40,000 rupees monthly, which later doubled and then surged to a 100,000 rupees per month demand. Under the guise of child support, money was continually extracted. "How much does it take to raise a four-year-old child, after all? His wife even suggested suicide as a solution when he couldn't meet the monetary demands, and the judge reportedly laughed in court," he accused.
In the past six months, the notion of suicide lingered in Atul Subhash's mind, unbeknownst to his family, who did not foresee such an action. He meticulously planned every task in a timetable. Atul met his wife, Nikita, through a matrimonial site, and they married in 2019. A year later, after the birth of their child, differences emerged, leading Nikita to return to her parent’s home.
Mother Collapses at Airport; Father Blames the System
On Tuesday, Atul Subhash's last rites were performed. His parents and brother arrived at the Patna airport on Wednesday evening with Atul's ashes. They were seen weeping and demanding justice for their son, with Atul's mother fainting at the scene. Before collapsing, she lamented, "My child was tortured. My support in old age is gone. Justice has not been served to us. He suffered greatly but never showed it to anyone."
Atul Subhash's father commented, "Our justice system is fragile. We haven’t received justice. My child left behind all his testimonies. He didn’t share much with us, afraid to upset us, but he was severely tortured. We demand a corrected legal system and justice for my child." Earlier, Atul's brother remarked, "Many false cases were running against my brother, causing him distress. He gave his life while battling the system."
Atul's Mother-in-Law Denies All Allegations
The family of Atul Singhania's wife, Nikita Singhania, residing in Jaunpur, has also spoken up. Nikita's mother repudiated all allegations of harassment made against her daughter and family. She stated, "These accusations are baseless. I will present all evidence to the world. Atul Subhash vented his frustrations on us. My daughter could never incite anyone to suicide." Nikita's uncle added, "Our family is innocent of any wrongdoing."
Suheel Kumar, Nikita’s uncle, denied the accusations, saying, "Nikita isn’t here, but she will address all questions upon her return. I learned through media that my name was mentioned in Atul Subhash’s suicide case FIR, although I neither was in Bengaluru nor was involved in this matter. We learned about the case through the media." The world still awaits the entire perspective from Nikita.
