Members from over 40 Kshatriya organizations, including the Karni Sena, gathered in Agra's Garhi area on Saturday to hold a rally. They demanded a public apology from Samajwadi Party's Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman for his comments about Rana Sanga, the 16th-century Rajput ruler. Karni Sena issued a warning: if Ramji Lal Suman does not apologize, the Kshatriya organizations will formulate further strategies. Tight security measures were in place around MP Suman's home during the 'Rakt Swabhimaan Sammelan' held on Saturday. Police set up a security perimeter around his residence.
Karni Sena's national president Raj Shekhawat warned that if no action was taken against SP MP Ramji Lal Suman by 5 PM, they would march to his Agra residence. People from various districts and cities began arriving since Friday night to join this rally. Nearly 50,000 square meters of fields were leveled to transform it into the assembly venue. Union Minister SP Singh Baghel also came to Agra to participate in the Karni Sena rally.
Chaos erupted following a statement by Ramji Lal Suman about Rana Sanga. On March 26, Karni Sena protested at Suman's residence, causing vandalism and injuries, including among police officers. Two cases were filed on March 27 in Agra's Hariparvat police station involving severe charges, including attempted murder.
Karni Sena's Sandeep Singh addressed the media, saying, 'A significant decision has been taken during the conference. If MP Ramji Lal Suman does not apologize soon, the united Kshatriya organizations will decide the next course of action.' DCP (City) Sonam Kumar noted the implementation of a three-tier security plan. Police forces were stationed at 24 strategic locations, and several areas were barricaded.
Sonam Kumar, in a conversation with AajTak, stated, 'The situation is completely under control. Karni Sena members weren't allowed to cross Agra's outer security ring, let alone reach MP Ramji Lal Suman's house.' He added, 'We're identifying those who brought swords, seizing illegal weapons, and documenting them visually.'
With the presence of police administration and local leaders, Karni Sena presented a memorandum demanding an apology from MP Ramji Lal. Following assurances, the 5 PM ultimatum was lifted. According to police, all were sent back after submitting the paperwork. Additional police from neighboring districts like Meerut, Jhansi, and Mainpuri were called to reinforce local forces. Officials closely monitored related activities on social media.
The dispute arose from MP Ramji Lal Suman's statement in Parliament on March 21. He claimed Rana Sanga had invited Babur to defeat the Delhi Sultanate's last ruler, Ibrahim Lodi. Suman argued that if Indian Muslims are considered Babur's descendants, then by that logic, others could be seen as descendants of 'traitors' like Rana Sanga. This remark sparked anger among many Rajput groups, including the All-India Kshatriya Mahasabha and Karni Sena, leading to a passionate response due to comments on Rajput heritage. Suman has petitioned Allahabad High Court seeking security following the attack on his residence.
SP MP Ramji Lal Suman stated his belief in peaceful protest, criticizing the Karni Sena's approach as anarchic. He emphasized that it was an attack on the ‘PDA,’ not just him. Fearing for the safety of himself and his family, he wrote to the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for protection. The police administration believes there's a risk to his life, thus security is in place.
Returning Karni Sena activists blocked the national highway, insisting on an apology from Ramji Lal Suman. Tensions increased, requiring police and RAF intervention to disperse the crowd. Karni Sena announced another rally in Delhi on May 9, commemorating Maharana Pratap's birth anniversary.
