Participating in the 'Agenda Aaj Tak' program on Thursday, Home Minister Amit Shah addressed several key issues. He emphasized that the BJP, under PM Modi's leadership, is resolute about implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) throughout the nation without a retreat.

When asked about discussing UCC in the states but hesitating to implement it nationwide, Shah replied, 'Please do not present this as merely BJP's agenda to the public; it was a mandate given to the parliament and state legislatures by our Constituent Assembly.'

'Congress Wrapped UCC in Partisan Fabric for Vote Bank'

Furthering his statement, Shah mentioned that our Constituent Assembly included certain principles in the Directive Principles of State Policy, Article 40, which could not be enacted immediately post-independence. He criticized Congress for sidelining UCC in favor of vote bank politics even though most assembly members were from Congress itself.

Shah stated, 'However, BJP has held on to this commitment. A hallmark of any secular governance is to have a common law for citizens of all religions. But Congress attempted to dress UCC in a distinct ideological garment for vote bank politics. Regardless, BJP's manifesto has consistently promised to strive for UCC since 1950.'

'BJP, Under PM Narendra Modi's Lead, Firm on Implementing UCC'

'Now you say that attempts are being made to implement UCC in the states. Please understand, UCC is a significant socio-legal reform needing consensual opinions. Once a few states adopt it, committees are formed, hearings take place, millions are consulted, and legally vetted laws are drafted. I firmly believe the mature outcome will be accepted across the country. But rest assured, BJP, led by PM Narendra Modi, is steadfast in bringing UCC to fruition without stepping back,' Shah concluded.
