The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has issued a sharp warning to BRICS nations, stating that any country supporting the bloc's 'anti-American policies' will face an additional 10% tariff from the U.S. Trump made it clear that there will be no exceptions to this policy.
This statement comes at a time when India recently signed the BRICS declaration, which criticized the tariffs imposed by the United States. On Monday, Trump took to social media to declare, 'Any country supporting BRICS' anti-American policy will face an additional 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy.'
Trump announced that the United States will start sending tariff-related letters to various countries from Monday, July 7, at 12 PM (Eastern Time). He expressed his pleasure in announcing that the U.S. would commence sending tariff deals and letters to various nations starting July 7 at noon.
On Sunday, the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) released the Rio Declaration, expressing deep concern over unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures affecting international trade, which violate WTO (World Trade Organization) regulations.
Mao Ning, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to Trump's threat of an additional 10% tariff, stating that the BRICS group promotes openness, inclusivity, and win-win cooperation. BRICS is a platform encouraging collaboration between emerging and developing economies and is not aimed against any specific country.
