On the afternoon of November 27, everything seemed normal at a private bank branch in Burari, Delhi. The counters were buzzing with activity, and customers were waiting patiently in line. Among them stood a senior citizen, unaware of the eyes watching him. As he stepped outside, cash in hand, the pursuit began.
Five robbers astride two motorcycles seized their opportunity at a secluded turn on the Outer-North Bawana-Narela belt, swiftly robbing the senior citizen of ₹3.5 lakh before disappearing. As soon as the Outer North's DCP, Hareshwar Swami, was alerted, a police team was set up to investigate.
The team began scrutinizing CCTV footage from around the crime scene. A clear sequence of the robbers’ movements was revealed from the bank to the site of the crime. Combining mobile records and ground surveillance further aided in identifying the suspects, resulting in the apprehension of three robbers.
Sachin from Mandoli Extension, Karan from East Gokalpuri, and Akash from Chandinagar, Uttar Pradesh, were soon arrested. Under rigorous interrogation, they disclosed the robbery plan orchestrated by five individuals, with the mastermind being someone named Lovely.
This Lovely was described as the gang's brain, accompanied by Mohan alias Gandhi during the heist, both of whom are still at large. Cash was recovered from the arrested suspects, with ₹6,000 and ₹22,000 found in Karan and Sachin’s homes, and another ₹30,000 retrieved from a local money lender, which Karan had used to settle his debt.
The motorcycles used in the crime have been seized. The investigation uncovered that the gang operated a dual network inside and outside the bank. Members inside monitored cash transactions while their associates outside followed and robbed the unsuspecting senior citizen. The victim had no inkling their every move was being tracked.
The search for absconding suspects Lovely and Mohan continues with persistent police raids. Concurrently, police are conducting a detailed analysis of digital communications and call records to identify any remaining gang members and potential connections. The probe to recover the rest of the cash and another bike is ongoing.
