On Saturday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Muslims around the world to stand united with the people of Lebanon, as its capital, Beirut, faces the brunt of Israeli airstrikes. Labeling Israel as an 'oppressive and wicked regime,' Khamenei emphasized that all Muslims should utilize whatever resources they have against it. The death of Hezbollah's chief, Hassan Nasrallah, in an Israeli airstrike has heightened fears of a direct conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
Khamenei told Reuters News Agency, 'It is the duty of all Muslims to stand with the people of Lebanon and Hezbollah and help them confront this oppressive and wicked regime.' He further added that the Jewish regime should realize that they cannot damage Hezbollah's strong structure.
Khamenei wrote on Ex (formerly Twitter), 'The Jewish regime, which has learned nothing from its year-long criminal war in Gaza, still fails to grasp that the massacre of women, children, and innocent civilians cannot bring the resilient forces of resistance to their knees.' He also called upon all resistance forces to support Hezbollah.
On Saturday, the Israeli military claimed they killed Hezbollah leader Nasrallah in Beirut airstrikes. According to the Israeli army, they targeted Hezbollah's headquarters in Beirut, where Nasrallah was hiding in a bunker. Hezbollah later confirmed Nasrallah's death. For security reasons, Khamenei has been moved to a safe location.
The Israeli airstrikes on Southern Beirut have destroyed several buildings, notably in the Dahiyeh area, which is known as a stronghold of Hezbollah.
