The terror of coal smugglers is escalating in Kashalpura Kumhar Basti, Ramkanali OP area of Dhanbad district. In a recent incident, smugglers assaulted villagers who were protesting against illegal coal mining with firing, stone-pelting, and beatings, injuring six villagers. One of them is critically injured and has been admitted to BGH Hospital.
Local villagers reported that illegal coal mining is rampant in the Ambe Outsourcing area. The constant excavations pose a threat of land subsidence. This led the villagers to organize a protest and stage a sit-in at the site at night. During this, a group of smugglers launched an attack.
Police Recover Bullet Shells from the Scene
During the incident, coal smugglers fired shots and threw stones at the villagers. Several women also alleged assaults. One injured villager mentioned that the attackers wielded sticks and guns. The villagers argue police inaction has boosted the smugglers' confidence. Police have recovered bullet shells but have yet to apprehend any suspects.
Police Official Speaks on the Matter
Inspector Mangal Prasad Kujur of Ramkanali Police stated that they have received reports of illegal coal mining and firing by smugglers. Illegal mining activities have riled up the villagers, prompting protests. The smugglers responded with gunfire. Bullet shells were recovered from the spot, and an investigation is on-going, with actions to be taken against the culprits.
