'Ghajini,' starring Aamir Khan, was one of the most popular films of its time. Aamir’s character, suffering from memory loss, famously had enemies' names and numbers tattooed all over his body. Now, a real-life story has emerged in India’s financial capital, Mumbai, strikingly similar to 'Ghajini.' A man had the names of his 22 enemies tattooed on a specific part of his body. Although he did not suffer from memory loss like 'Ghajini,' he lived his life haunted by the list of his 22 enemies every day.
The twist? When he was murdered, the killer’s name was found tattooed as the sixth name among his enemies. This bizarre and shocking murder mystery began at the Soft Touch Spa in Worli. Early Wednesday morning, police received a call from this spa reporting a murder. The news sent shockwaves through the police force. A team was promptly dispatched to the spa, where they discovered the blood-soaked body of a man, killed with sharp weapons.

Upon sending the body for autopsy, the doctors were astonished to find not one or two but a total of 22 names tattooed on both of the deceased’s thighs—a comprehensive list of enemies inked on his legs. The question arose: What was the deal with these tattoos? What secret lay behind having the names of 22 people tattooed on his thighs? What was the connection between the deceased, who had chosen to tattoo these names, and the 22 individuals?
The mystery unraveled when the police examined the names and observed the phrase at the top of the list: "The names of my enemies are written in my diary. Investigate and take action." Although the mention was of a diary, the deceased had taken the extra step—or perhaps double safety precaution—of inking his enemies' names on his thighs. But the real question remained: Who was this man, and what field was he involved in that his enemy list had grown so long?
Further investigation clarified when the police noticed the sixth name on the enemy list. It belonged to none other than Santosh Sherkar, whose spa was the crime scene. As it turns out, this spa was owned by Sherkar, and he was the first to inform the police about the murder occurring at his spa. The victim was identified as a 52-year-old RTI activist named Guru Waghmare, known for exposing flaws through RTI and blackmailing individuals for money.
It soon became evident that Waghmare had also been blackmailing Sherkar for years, leading to an enmity between the two. Waghmare had duly tattooed Sherkar’s name as the sixth enemy. But the next question was, how did Guru Waghmare end up at Santosh Sherkar’s spa? And who was responsible for his murder?

Upon questioning Sherkar, the police learned that Waghmare had arrived at the spa around 12:30 AM the previous night with a 21-year-old girlfriend. By then, the spa staff had left for the day. Sherkar claimed that he himself was unaware of the murder until the morning when Waghmare's girlfriend informed him. That’s when he rushed to the spa and called the police.
The police then questioned Waghmare's girlfriend, trying to understand the sequence of events. She revealed it was Waghmare's birthday on Tuesday, which he celebrated with her. They visited a bar where they drank before heading to the Soft Touch Spa. According to her, Waghmare threw a party for the spa manager and a staff member, who then left for home. She went to sleep in a room at the spa, and when she woke up around 9:30 AM, she discovered Waghmare’s body. Both Sherkar and the girlfriend claimed to have seen Waghmare alive the previous night but denied knowledge of the murder.
The police turned to technical investigations, examining CCTV footage from the bar to the surrounding areas of the spa. They uncovered images of two suspicious individuals, both wearing raincoats, who had been following Waghmare on a scooter. The two suspects were also seen near a pan shop outside the spa, buying items.
Inquiring with the pan seller, the police discovered that these men had purchased chewing tobacco and paid for it using UPI. This provided a crucial lead as the police traced the payment details to a man named Firoz Ansari, scrutinizing his call records. To their surprise, they found continuous communication between Santosh Sherkar and Firoz Ansari, who was one of the individuals following Waghmare. It indicated Sherkar’s involvement, prompting the police to detain him.
Finally, Sherkar confessed to hiring Firoz Ansari and another man, Sakib Ansari, to eliminate Waghmare. They followed Waghmare to the spa an hour after he had arrived, where they mutilated him with a scissor blade. The police arrested Sherkar along with Firoz Ansari. A day later, Sakib Ansari was apprehended in Kota, Rajasthan, while fleeing to Delhi on a train. The motive and execution of the murder thus unfolded.

Diving into deeper motives, the investigation revealed Waghmare’s extensive blackmailing racket using RTI, targeting and extracting money from various individuals, including Sherkar. Fed up with years of extortion, Sherkar paid Firoz Ansari Rs 1.2 million to execute the murder. Firoz recruited Sakib, and they formulated the plan. Three months of meticulous planning led to Waghmare’s killing. Interestingly, Waghmare had even tattooed the names of his wife, son, and daughter-in-law on his thigh due to internal family disputes.
The twist in this dark tale? Despite his old rivalry with Firoz Ansari, who eventually killed him, Waghmare did not list Firoz’s name among his 22 enemies.
