In anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam, the Election Commission has officially announced a special revision of the voter list. This process will commence on Saturday, November 22, 2025, and continue until February 10, 2026. The qualifying date has been set as January 1, 2026.

On November 18, the Election Commission released a notification under Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, highlighting the special provisions for citizenship in Assam, which are overseen by the Supreme Court's NRC final stage proceedings. Therefore, a decision has been made to conduct a special revision rather than an intensive one as seen in other states.

BLOs to Conduct House-to-House Verification

Starting November 22, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry out house-to-house verification of voters. During this time, voters will have the opportunity to verify or correct their existing information. Essential details like names, addresses, Aadhaar numbers, and ID proof are already pre-registered in the BLO register. Through document verification, voters will confirm their identity and update any other necessary details.

Additionally, improvements in voter photographs and optimization of polling stations will be conducted.

Objections Can Be Filed Until December 27

According to the Election Commission's schedule, the draft publication of the voter list will occur on December 27. Claims and objections will be accepted from December 27, 2025, to January 22, 2026. Following the completion of this process, the final publication of the voter list in Assam is set for February 10, 2026. This special revision of the voter list is of particular significance due to Assam's unique citizenship verification process.
