The bail warrant issued against former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, was canceled after she appeared before a special court on Thursday afternoon. The special court, which deals with cases related to the National Investigation Agency, had issued a warrant against Thakur in November 2024 as she failed to appear in court on several occasions.

The court is currently in the trial's final phase and has ordered all defendants to attend daily hearings. Thakur appeared before the court on Thursday and, through her lawyer, filed an application to cancel the bail warrant.

According to PTI, Thakur stated in her application that she was unable to appear in court due to health issues and hospitalization. The court accepted the plea and canceled the bail warrant, instructing Thakur to be present in court on Friday.

On September 29, 2008, an explosion occurred near a mosque in Malegaon, approximately 200 kilometers from Mumbai, killing six people and injuring more than 100. Alongside Thakur, Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit and Major Ramesh Upadhyay (retired) are also accused in this case. They are charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) initially investigated this case, which was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2011. The special court framed charges against the accused in October 2018. The court is currently hearing final arguments in the case.
