In Nawada district, Bihar, a land dispute led assailants to set fire to a Dalit settlement. Villagers claim around 80 homes were reduced to ashes, although the police report only 20 homes were burnt, with no fatalities. The authorities have arrested 10 suspects. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has criticized the Nitish government for this incident.

This incident happened in the Krishna Nagar Dalit settlement near Nanaura, under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station in Nawada. A land dispute between two parties had been ongoing. On Wednesday evening, the assailants attacked Dalit families, resorted to aerial firing, and then set their homes on fire.

Uproar Over Land Possession

It is said that Dalit families currently occupy a part of the land in the village, which is under dispute with another group. Senior officials have been hearing the case. The affected families allege that the assailants attacked suddenly on Wednesday evening, assaulting them and setting their homes on fire. Upon receiving information about the fire, the fire brigade was dispatched.

What Nawada's SP Revealed

SP Abhinav Dhiman revealed, "We received the information around 7 PM that some individuals had set fire to houses here. Initially, it was claimed that 40-50 homes were burnt, but our initial survey conducted by the civil and police personnel in the dark has identified approximately 21 homes. Further detailed surveys might be conducted, but the confirmed number so far stands at 21. Additionally, no fatalities or bodies have been reported.

Police Deny Aerial Firing

The SP also denied the allegations of aerial firing, stating, "The claims of aerial firing or other actions have not been verified as no shells have been found. However, our team is surveying and camping here."

The SP stated that the main suspects in this incident have been arrested. Alongside the main accused, 10 others have been detained, and all involved individuals will be arrested. Police forces will remain deployed until normalcy is restored.
