The ongoing issue in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal remains a hot topic. On Thursday, a BJP delegation en route to Sandeshkhali was halted midway. The party's female leaders were among those stopped. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken to the streets of Bengal today.
Previously on Wednesday, five of the aggrieved women from Sandeshkhali had met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was in Barasat, West Bengal, to address a rally. The Sandeshkhali women who reached to meet PM Modi includes those five women PM Modi met with.
In light of this incident, TMC MP Shantanu Sen expressed doubts whether the women who met PM were actually from Sandeshkhali or not. Those who were supposed to meet the PM from Sandeshkhali did not go. The BJP brought people from outside to meet the PM. It's a drama. The BJP activists were taken to meet the PM and were passed off as residents of Sandeshkhali.
Mamata Banerjee's Foot March
In the meantime, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is marching on foot through Bengal's streets, together with TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and the TMC Women's Wing. It's said that she's responding to her party being targeted over the Sandeshkhali case with a foot march.
Mamata Banerjee stated that Bengal's patience and politeness should not be seen as weakness. Our patience should not be mistaken for helplessness. They only show up during elections and disappear afterwards. She also invited people to join the public meeting at Brigade on 10th March.
Hearing on Shahjahan Sheikh's Bail Plea Postponed
Meanwhile, Shahjahan Sheikh's lawyer had requested a hearing on his client's bail application in the court of the Chief Justice. The lawyer argued that since the Chief Justice had ordered Shahjahan's arrest, they wanted the bail hearing in his court. The Chief Justice replied that an application for Shahjahan Sheikh's bail would have to be filed with the designated High Court bench.
