Although Aditya Dhar's film 'Dhruvadar' is a fictional narrative, it is deeply rooted in reality. This espionage thriller is set in Karachi's Lyari district, infamous for gang wars in the early 2000s. In the film, Akshaye Khanna plays the role of gangster Rehman Dakait. The actor's character is based on the real-life gangster of the same name. Many discussions have emerged regarding the portrayal of the real-life character, but now one of Rehman’s actual friends has praised the film.
Dhruvadar captivates Rehman Dakait's associate
In an internet phenomenon video, Habib Jan Baloch speaks about the film. Habib Jan Baloch, a lawyer and Baloch nationalist, can be seen conversing with a reporter. The reporter asks Habib his opinion on the depiction of his friend Rehman Dakait in the film. In response, he mentions that he watched the movie twice. Habib Jan Baloch remarks, 'I won't delve into the character. It’s a typical occurrence in films. It could've been better with more songs. But I must say, what Pakistan couldn't accomplish, India’s Bollywood has executed splendidly. Thank you, Bollywood.'
However, Habib Jan Baloch claims that contrary to the film's depiction, Rehman was not a villain but a hero. He asserted, 'He was a hero, a good man. Pakistan owes a debt to him. If it weren't for Rehman and Uzair Baloch, Pakistan today would resemble Bangladesh, or perhaps even worse.'
Lawyer Habib Jan Baloch was a friend of Rehman two decades ago. He further mentioned that according to him, the film is unbiased towards any party. Members of Pakistan People's Party have criticized 'Dhruvadar', claiming it casts their party in a negative light.
'Dhruvadar' features Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy who infiltrates Rehman's gang in Lyari in the 2000s. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt as Karachi's SP Chaudhry Aslam, a real-life police officer who led the Lyari Task Force. R. Madhavan and Arjun Rampal play pivotal roles in the movie. The film has been a massive box office success, crossing the 1000 crore mark worldwide. It has become Bollywood's fourth highest-grossing film.
